Cultivating resilience through community investment
AN INVITATION
The greatest support you can give is shopping with us, but there are times when our plans require an additional level of financial support. We are inviting you to become the Founding Members of the Plaw Hatch Farm Investors Group - by investing a minimum of £10,000 each into our shop expansion plan.
This is not a donation.
This is a business transaction.
We are proud to put good business practice at the forefront of our operation, showcasing how small-scale farming can be not only viable but genuinely successful.
And the most promising part? With an established record of profitability, we already have the cash in the bank for the expansion.
So, why ask for investors? Farming is unpredictable and at the mercy of the unexpected, be it geopolitical instability or the climate. With yet another drought this year we are already having to feed our cattle the winter silage meaning our costs are set to sky rocket. Having that operating cash available to buy extra feed for our animals is non-negotiable. Your investment will mean we can go ahead with the expansion, providing more for all of our customers sooner, while maintaining a financial safety net to keep the farm farming.
This is a way to put some money to work - helping build resilience in a farm you trust, providing more for our wider community, and earning a fair return while doing so.
JOIN OUR INVESTORS GROUP
You will be invited to an exclusive launch evening. With a little food and fizz, you’ll meet our farm team, architects and builders, and get a behind the scenes look at the shop expansion. Throughout the loan period, you will be invited on seasonal farm tours and be given regular updates on the progress of the expansion, as well as future projects to get involved in.
THE PLAN
Bigger. Better. More good food for all.
We’re delighted to be working with local sustainable builders, Douch Partners Ltd
and Nicolas Pople Architects, who have designed an expansion that honours the
current building and our Sussex heritage.
What your investment supports:
- Expanding the footprint of the current farm retail shop
- Increasing storage, making use of currently redundant space
- Widening our product range to meet increasing customer demand
- Creating a better working environment for all
- Installing a new, accessible customer WC
This pioneering funding project will lay the foundation for future investment opportunities
on the farm that will benefit our animals, farming practices and customers,
including improvements to the carpark, our milking parlour, and more...
WHY WE'RE ASKING YOU, NOT THE BANK
As tenant farmers, our land and buildings are owned by a charitable trust, St Anthony’s. While this works beautifully to protect the land’s long-term future, it’s not so helpful when approaching the bank. Despite good accounts and even better cashflow, with no assets to secure a loan against, the interest rates from the bank are eye-watering. We’d rather those returns go to people who support our values. As the farm business is owned by a not-for-profit community benefit society, all of our surplus profits go directly back into improvements on the farm.
HOW IT WORKS
Investors Group loans will be fully covered by an agreement signed by both the individual and Plaw Hatch Farm Ltd. The agreement has been reviewed by our accountants, and all relevant taxes will be deducted at source. As a community farm our accounts are fully transparent.
Loan amount: minimum investment £10,000
Term: 3 years
Repayment: 12 quarterly payments
Interest: 4% gross interest
Inaugural Investors Group spaces will initially be limited to 15, however there will be future opportunities if we reach our target numbers.
