Dyeing with Flowers - Saturday 26th July 2025

Dyeing with Flowers - Saturday 26th July 2025
Dyeing with flowers at Plaw Hatch Farm
with farmer Gala Bailey-Barker and Deborah Barker of Field Folk
Saturday 26th July - 10.30am -4.30pm
During this one day workshop we will create beautiful vibrant colour on biodynamic wool from the Plaw Hatch flock with locally harvested and foraged dye plants. In the process we will explore how our textiles and clothing have the potential to revitalise the land and communities that produce them.
The Day
In the morning we will walk the land together harvesting dye plants for our dye baths.
As we walk we will explore how sheep, grazed in an agroecological system, can enliven and support the landscape. And how Plaw Hatch are managing their hedgerows, pasture and soil to create a resilient and biodiverse landscape
We will head back to the barn to create a rich palette of 4 colours from foraged and cultivated dye plants that can be combined to create an infinite range of colour possibilities.
The workshop will be limited to 8 participants to ensure that everyone can fully participate in harvesting the dye plants and dyeing the yarn and there will be plenty of time for questions. There is one bursary place on each course for a young designer please email deborah@fieldandfolk.org for more information.
